Posted October 28, 2020
Disciplines: All
The Missouri Water Resources Research Center (MoWRRC) with the University of Missouri is currently inviting pre-proposals for funding by the Office of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Department of the Interior. The MoWRRC operates the USGS Water Research Institute program for the State of Missouri. The federal research dollars administered through the MoWRRC are available to faculty members or affiliates at institutions of higher education in Missouri for Plan Year 2021–22. This 104b grant is funded through an annual grant from the USGS as part of the federal Water Resources Research Act of 1984, as amended. This program targets applied research that addresses water problems in Missouri. NOTE: The funding for this grant is contingent upon congressional appropriations, and we have not yet received the official notification of approval for federal support of the 2021 program. We anticipate the program will be funded at the same level as FY 2020; however, reductions in funding and/or funding delays are possible.
The proposed research should address one of the identified priority research needs or another area of benefit to the State of Missouri.
- Aspects of Water Quantity in Missouri
- Water Policy-Planning-Adjudication in Missouri
- Quality Assessment and/or Control of Surface Water and Groundwater in Missouri
We encourage submission of proposals led by early career faculty and those that support graduate students.
The deadline for pre-proposals is Friday, November 20, 2020, 5:00 PM CST. Guidelines for preparing and submitting pre-proposals are available below and in PDF. Pre-proposals will be reviewed by the MoWRRC advisory committee. The selected pre-proposals will be invited to submit full proposals for inclusion in the total 104b proposal from MoWRRC to USGS. We anticipate that 2-3 research proposals will be selected for funding based on budgets and research funds available. Each total award is not to exceed $22,000/year. The proposal should be prepared with a research scope consistent with two-years of support. The budget for each year is not to exceed $22,000. The total budget for 2 years is $44,000 for each project. Please submit budget for the first year only. The second year will be contingent upon continued funding from USGS. Under this program, each award for $22,000 must be matched with $2 (non-federal sources) to every $1 (USGS-federal).
Selected full proposals will be due to the MOWRRC by December 15, 2020 which will be included for submission within the full USGS 104(b) proposal for the State of Missouri. The project period for FY 2021 will be from March 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022.
