CPAN workshop series on Data Analysis for Publication, Presentation, and Proposals.
Posted September 4, 2020
Disciplines: All
The Center for Predictive Analytics and the Center for Faculty Development and Innovation are pleased to announce a new workshop series on Data Analysis for Publication, Presentation, and Proposals. Data drives scholarly research. However, getting data to behave so that we can glean meaningful insights from it is often easier said than done. Making things even more complicated, how we talk about and use our data changes depending on the type of scholarly work that we are composing.
This year-long series of monthly workshops covers multiple topics in data analysis as it relates to scholarly research, starting with data organization and data cleaning tricks, moving to analyzing data in R, and culminating in a workshop on how to use your data to make a persuasive argument. All workshops will be offered virtually on Zoom and will be posted to the C-PAN YouTube channel.
Wednesday, Sept. 2nd – Data Organization
Have you ever thought that data analysts are speaking in a different language when we start talking about data frames and CSV’s? Have you ever wondered what your data colleagues do to turn 10 files into a single Masterfile and how they get things ready for analysis? This workshop covers how to organize your data and get it ready for analysis (and how to make it easier for your data colleagues to help analyze your data more quickly).
Wednesday, Oct. 7th – Excel Tricks
Trick or Treat? This workshop covers a variety of Excel functions, calculations, lesser known features, you name it, that we often use to process, clean, and analyze data. Feel free to submit “How Do I Do ...” questions beforehand, and we will cover as many as we can in addition to some of the tricks that we use all the time as data scientists.
Wednesday, Nov. 4th – Intro to R
R is a powerful and versatile statistical programming language that allows us to mine and analyze our data. However, R doesn't’t have the nicest learning curve. This workshop covers how to get started using R, some of its basic functions and utilities, and how to conduct common experimental analyses.
December – No Workshops, Happy Holidays!!!
