Interested in exploring how you can incorporate sustainability into your curriculum? Are you searching for new ways to empower students with the tools and knowledge they need to be leaders in a future characterized by rapid social, inequality, and environmental changes? Or, are you considering developing a new course or a new module in an existing course? Incorporating sustainability issues into the curriculum can be as straightforward as asking the question, "What sustains us?"

Education for sustainability is a quickly developing concern of colleges and universities, including SIUE. Increasing evidence shows that, when considering options for higher education, prospective students are looking at campuses in terms of the environment and what those campuses are doing in terms of sustainability (  Emerging data, furthermore, suggest that campuses that practice sustainability have higher retention and graduation rates than campuses that do not.

We invite you to participate in the Summer 2015 Mississippi Project V:
"Green Curriculum, Green Campus, Green Community." The workshop is modeled after the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University
( and the Piedmont Project at Emory University (, which have both drawn national attention for their innovative approaches to curricular change. This workshop provides an opportunity to enhance your teaching through engagement with questions of sustainability.

The workshop will explore how we can meaningfully integrate sustainability – broadly defined – into our classrooms. Though we start by taking a close look at SIUe and the larger St. Louis region, we also encourage participants to engage in local/global comparisons. Participants will receive information on resources available that will help facilitate their own efforts to infuse sustainability into their curriculum. Participants will also have opportunities to extend research and teaching horizons across disciplines and create new networks with fellow SIUe colleagues, as well as colleagues from around the region.
