Mentoring Pre-Collegiate and Summer Success Program Freshmen Students
The SIUE e-Plugs Mentorship Program provides mentorship to pre-collegiate students and freshmen SIUE students who participated in the Summer Success Program. The e-Plugs Mentorship Program offers an opportunity for a one-on-one relationship created to enrich the mentees’ college preparation and freshmen experience. Building mentor-to-mentee relationships is a valuable opportunity for a mentor to use their talent, knowledge and ideas to make a difference in the mentee’s academic, social and professional growth. This relationship will foster a compassionate and inclusive environment that is open to honest communication. Further, the value of responsibility will be explored and enhanced. e-Plug mentors serve as guides, networking resources, and coaches by reinforcing positive accomplishments. They will also provide mentees with encouragement and support to help them overcome the obstacles they face college preparation efforts and their freshmen year of college.
SIUE e-PLUGS are experienced faculty, staff, alumni, community leaders or dedicated students who not only demonstrate confident leadership, but also recognize the reciprocal benefits of mentoring pre-collegiate and freshmen students. Mentors are paired with students based on information obtained in the mentor interest form and mentor selection process. Each mentor-to-mentee(s) pair will be assigned to a member of the program staff who will serve as a facilitator and an additional layer of support for the success of this component of the program.
