SIUE to Host Solar Car Drivers with Festival During Electrek American Solar Challenge Route 66 Stop in Edwardsville
For a second year, SIUE and the School of Engineering will host the exciting collegiate competition known as the Electrek American Solar Challenge. More than 20 solar car teams traveling more than 1,500 miles in eight days along the Great River Road and Route 66 will encounter a festival at the SIUE stop, with food trucks, music, and more!
Schedule
Monday, July 27 – 2-8 p.m.
Solar cars arrive staggered until 6 p.m.; solar charging until 8 p.m.
- Lead car, solar car, and chase caravan arrive, official time in is taken, and vehicles are directed to their respective areas.
- Teams serve a mandatory 30-minute stage point time and are then allowed the option of completing additional loops or conduct on-site solar charging.
- Teams will depart the stage point, drive the loop, return to the stage point, and then serve another mandatory stage point time (nominally 5 minutes), after which they may choose to do another loop.
- 5-8 p.m. Food trucks, deejay and fun!
- Public viewing of solar car teams as they solar charge on site until 8 p.m.
- Teams complete their morning charging and perform maintenance on their solar cars.
- Public is welcome to view the cars.
- Lead, chase, and solar car must be in line for the start.
- Public lines up to cheer on the teams for the start.
- Solar car teams start staggered in 1-minute intervals.
