Two Ph.D. students graduated from Civil Engineering in Fall 2017

The Civil Engineering Department has successfully graduated two more doctoral students through the SIUE-SIUC cooperative doctoral program in engineering science. Dr. Azadeh Akhavan Bloorchian (environmental and water resources engineering, advised by Dr. Jianpeng Zhou and co-advised by Dr. Abdolreza Osouli), and Dr. Siavash Zamiran (geotechnical engineering, advised by Dr. Abdolreza Osouli) were conferred their Ph.D. degrees at the Fall 2017 commencement. SIUE Civil Engineering Assists with Hosting MATHCOUNTS Competition

The SIUE Department of Civil Engineering is proud to assist the Illinois Society of Civil Engineers (ISPE) with hosting MATHCOUNTS on February 3rd, 2018.  MATHCOUNTS is a non-profit organization that tries to engage middle school students in math and problem solving. Akash Jain, is the recipient of the 2017 ASCE/SEI St. Louis Chapter Structural Engineering Scholarship

August 29, 2017

SIUE CE graduate student, Akash Jain, is the recipient of the 2017 ASCE/SEI St. Louis Chapter Structural Engineering Scholarship. He will receive this scholarship at the St. Louis Section annual dinner. This structural scholarship has been offered since 2013 by the St. Louis Chapter of ASCE/SEI to a student pursuing a Master’s degree with a structural emphasis enrolled during the Fall semester at a Midwest University.

CE Students Build Masonry Arch

April 26, 2017

On April 26, Mark Vasquez of MAV Masonry helped a team of civil engineering students construct a masonry arch in our structural laboratory.  Building Products Corporation and MAV graciously donated 200 bricks, lime, and sand for the project, which is part of a masonry arch competition sponsored by the Association for Preservation Technology International.
