Design Process Overview
Step 1 – Faculty and Instructional Designer Meet/Course Planning Grid
The purpose of this meeting is for the Instructional Designer to learn about the course, its goals, and the source of the content. The ID will also collaborate with the Faculty Content Expert to demonstrate how to complete the Course Planning Grid and establish roles and timelines for the course build and peer review. This step corresponds with Scope of Work (SOW) 1.
Step 2 – Course Build Process
After the completion of the Course Planning Grid, the Instructional Designers use it to begin building the course in Blackboard using an iterative approach. As the subject matter expert in providing the content, the Faculty Content Expert gives feedback on the development as it is happening. Collaboration between the Faculty Content Expert and the Instructional Designer is ongoing throughout the process; to reach defined project milestones, communication must remain consistent. This step corresponds with SOW 2 and 3.
Step 3 – Quality Review
After the course has been built, the final step is to utilize a quality review instrument to evaluate the course design. (Read more about the OSCQR review instrument). This includes a self-review, an ID review, and a peer review. The Instructional Designer will work with the Faculty Content Expert to interpret evaluation results and plan for a revision before the content is ready for students. This step corresponds with SOW 4.
