About Dr. Smith
Randall E. Smith., is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education, Health, and Human Behavior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He joined SIUE in 1991 after teaching in three previous universities. Dr. Smith obtained his Ph.D. in Social Studies Education/Curriculum and Instruction with his other area of History from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Dr. Smith teaches graduate courses that include Analysis of Instruction, Curriculum Models, Research Methods, Issues and Trends in Social Studies, Advising Master’s Research Paper/Projects, and Teaching with Primary Sources/Adventures of the American Mind in conjunction with the Library of Congress. He also teaches undergraduate courses in Elementary and Secondary Methods, Elementary Social Studies, Secondary General Methods, Introduction to Education, and Methods for Classroom Management. Dr. Smith has over the year presented at numerous professional meetings at the international, national, state, and local level and is involved with various professional organizations. Dr. Smith is one of the founding Board Members of the Southern Illinois Junior Achievement Board. In the area of community and university service there are quite a few which he very proud of but too numerous to mention. During his career here, Dr. Smith has served a Chair of the department of Curriculum and Instruction, Program Director for Secondary and Elementary Education, and as Partnership Coordinator. Dr. Smith also has been trained as an edTPA Scorer.

Research Profile
Dr. Smith’s research has focused over the years in Social Studies Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Technology in the classroom and working with the Library of Congress teaching with Prime Sources. We are one of the few universities that have two graduate level courses that are accepted into a graduate program!
