At least a dozen vehicles lined up near the roundabout on the East St. Louis Higher Education Campus awaiting the beginning of a giveaway on Thursday, Sept. 24 that included school supplies, food items, cleaning materials and midterm progress report cards.

When Linda Crawford walked down the halls of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville East St. Louis Charter High School (CHS) on Monday, Aug. 17, she had a good feeling about the school. And that was before she received a Chromebook, a bookbag of classroom supplies, a box of food and school shirts for her niece, Kimbra, a CHS freshman.

Reading, writing and angelic donations? Southern Illinois University Edwardsville East St. Louis Charter High School (CHS) students can expect to experience all three – with the latter one arriving Thursday, Dec. 19.

Inside and outside of class, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville East St. Louis Charter High School (CHS) students can be seen studying and working on assignments on their new Chromebook laptops. It is the first time that CHS students have been able to use technology for their entire school day, courtesy of a $3.5 million gift from an anonymous donor.
