Vocal Pedagogy Header

The post-baccalaureate certificate in vocal pedagogy is designed not only for school music educators but also private voice teachers who wish to further their knowledge in vocal technique and pedagogy. If desired, students who complete the certificate may apply the coursework (except MUS 440Q or MUS 500A) toward a master’s if accepted into that program.

Program of Study

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy (18-20 hours):

Required Courses (14 hours)

  • Vocal Pedagogy – MUS 519A, 519B (4 hours)
  • Vocal Literature – MUS 511F (2 hours)
  • Applied Voice – MUS 440Q or 540Q (4 hours)
  • Advanced Diction – MUS 539 (2 hours)
  • Practicum in Vocal Pedagogy – MUS 593 (2 hours)

Electives (Select 4-6 hours)

  • Applied Voice – MUS 440Q or 540Q (2–4 hours)
  • Graduate Music History Review – MUS 500B (2 hours)
  • Applied Theory and Ear Training – MUS 530 (2 hours)

Exit Requirements

The student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 and complete the course requirements within four (4) calendar years.
