Transfer Student Admission Requirements

If you have attended another college or university after graduating from high school or earning a GED/HiSET credential, you are considered a transfer student at SIUE.
Whether you are transferring from a community college or another four-year institution, SIUE is committed to helping you make a smooth transition to continue your academic journey.

Application deadlines are two weeks before the start of the term. Your application must be complete, including all required materials, by the deadline to be considered for admission.
After submitting your application, you can monitor your application status and view any outstanding requirements through your Admissions Portal.
Required Application Materials
To complete your application, submit:
- Completed Application for Admission: Submit your SIUE application.
- Official Transcripts from All Colleges and Universities Attended: Official transcripts must be sent directly from each institution attended or through an approved transcript service to etranscripts@siue.edu.
If you have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of college coursework, you must also submit your official high school transcript.
Admission Requirements
Transfer admission requirements are based on the amount of college coursework completed.
- Applicants with 30 or more attempted semester hours are eligible for admission with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 2.0.
- Applicants with fewer than 30 attempted semester hours must also meet first-time freshman admission requirements (link to page).
Transfer Credit
After admission, SIUE will evaluate your official transcripts to determine how your previous coursework may transfer.
Transfer credit evaluation will help you understand:
- Which courses apply toward your degree
- How your credits fit into your academic plan
- What courses you should take after enrolling at SIUE

Yes. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted, even if you did not complete courses or do not plan to transfer those credits.

Official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution or an approved transcript service to etranscripts@siue.edu.

Transcripts submitted by students or other third parties are not considered official.
How many credits do I need to transfer to SIUE?
Students may apply as transfer students regardless of the number of college credits completed.
Students who have attempted fewer than 30 semester hours have additional requirements, including submission of a high school transcript and meeting first-time freshman admission requirements.
Are SAT or ACT scores required for transfer admission?
No. SAT and ACT scores are not required for transfer admission consideration.

How will I know my admission decision?
Once your application is complete and reviewed, your admission decision will be available through your Admissions Portal. You will also receive notification using the contact information provided on your application.
What happens after I am admitted?
Congratulations! After admission, students will receive important next steps by email regarding enrollment, orientation, transfer credit information, and preparing to begin at SIUE. This information is also available online at siue.edu/admitted.
