Application Information
Thank you for your interest in studying at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville! Admission to the university is a two-step process. First, you must complete the online application and submit any required supporting academic qualifications for review. Next, if you are approved academically, you will provide the documents needed for SIUE to issue the appropriate I-20 or DS-2019 document for you to request a student visa to study in the U.S.
The requirements necessary to apply for admission vary if you are seeking an undergraduate (bachelor’s) or graduate (master’s or doctoral) degree, or if you wish to come to SIUE as a short-term exchange student. All international students must be able to provide proof of English proficiency, as well as official academic credentials.
For detailed instructions regarding how to apply, choose the appropriate student category:
- Undergraduate - Students seeking a bachelor’s degree from SIUE who have never attended a college or university, and those who may have taken some coursework at a college or university outside the U.S. but do not currently hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Graduate - Students seeking a Master’s or Doctoral degree from SIUE who have completed a 4-year bachelor’s degree either in the U.S. or outside the U.S
- Transfer - Students who are currently enrolled at another U.S. college or university who wish to complete their degree at SIUE. (Note: Students enrolled outside the U.S. are not considered transfer students, although course credits may transfer into their program of study.)
- Visiting/Exchange Students - Students seeking to join SIUE for a semester or year who do not intend to earn a degree from SIUE. Exchange students need to be nominated by an SIUE partner institution or organization.
- English Language Learners - Students needing to take coursework to meet the English proficiency requirements of the university. The English Pathway Program leads directly to admission into an SIUE undergraduate or graduate degree program.
