Message From the Chancellor

To the Campus Community:

Thank you for taking this opportunity to learn more about SIUE, the excellent programs we offer, our continual improvement efforts, and the accreditation process. Like many public comprehensive universities, SIUE faces challenging times, but the future holds great promise for our campus. We are poised to meet those challenges, fulfill our mission and serve our stakeholders’ needs. With many exciting projects under way, we maintain our commitment to quality while also assuring our external stakeholders of the economic value we provide to southwestern Illinois and its citizens.

As part of our ongoing accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission, SIUE’s Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Quality Check-Up will occur March 19-21, 2014. This site visit and review are the next significant steps in our quest for reaffirmation. Though SIUE is a long-time member of AQIP, we are working hard to enhance our quality improvement and planning structures. Effective organizations seize opportunities to learn, mature and improve. As such, we are developing more integrative planning processes that allow for greater cohesion in our budgeting, quality improvement programming and strategic planning. There is tremendous opportunity in bringing together the work we are doing in student-learning outcomes assessment, co-curricular programming, and retention, to ensure that we are meeting our goals of excellence.

Whether you are faculty, staff, student or alumnus, I hope you will consider participating in our quality-improvement efforts. You also can contribute to our efforts for successful reaccreditation by continuing the good work you do, attending an open forum in March, and sharing information about our university’s successes and opportunities for improvement.Your opinions and experiences matter!

Throughout my career, I have been an advocate for quality and improvement in higher education, and I am confident that you share those commitments. If you have any questions about the accreditation process or our quality-improvement efforts, please feel free to contact us. You can submit comments and suggestions through the link below. Let’s share our exciting story and continue to achieve our vision of “greater national and global recognition and academic prominence through innovative and interdisciplinary programs that empower individuals to achieve their full potential.”
