Accessibility at SIUE
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is committed to ensuring equal access to all. By ensuring all people can access and acquire information, engage, and interact fully with others, we create an inclusive and diverse environment.
Digital Accessibility Policy
SIUE formally adopted its Digital Accessibility Policy on February 5, 2026.
SIUE Web Accessibility Statement
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is committed to ensuring and maintaining the accessibility of the SIUE website – siue.edu – for everyone.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The SIUE website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. In most cases, this is archived content retained for posterity; in other instances, this might be content which has been deprecated or flagged for non-compliance but not yet removed from the website. WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards have been endorsed by both the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA) and the U.S. Department of Justice’s April 2024 Final Rule revising implementation of April 2024 Final Rule revising implementation of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Technical Specifications
The accessibility of siue.edu relies upon the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your device: HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS, and JavaScript. These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.
Assessment
SIUE routinely assesses the accessibility of new and existing web content at siue.edu. This assessment is conducted through both self-evaluation and the utilization of web governance and digital accessibility remediation platforms.
