Construction Management
Overview
The construction management program at SIUE blends business and engineering coursework to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for the multi-faceted aspects of careers in construction management. Students study engineering fundamentals and construction management practices and procedures, and integrate a business administration minor to develop a strong foundation that allows them to rapidly advance in the construction industry.
What can I do with a degree in construction management?
The construction industry is one of the largest components of the U.S. economy, and according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the construction management field is expected to grow 10% through 2028. The scope of construction ranges from single buildings to mega-projects with total costs in the billions of dollars.
Continual changes in the industry require construction professionals with a diverse set of skills and knowledge in business management, engineering principles and construction methods and technology. Our graduates are in high demand across the industry.
On average, starting salaries in preconstruction, superintendent and project management career paths are over $65,000. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2021 median annual salary for construction managers was $108,210. For professional land surveyors in Illinois, the average salary for men was $102,222 and $104,577 for women (IPLSA, 2020).
Hands-on Learning
Our students have the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom by participating in student organizations, including student chapters of Associated General Contractors (AGC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Associated Schools of Construction competition teams. Students also gain real-world construction management experience through co-ops, internships and undergraduate research.
Accreditation
The construction management program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education.
