Overview
SIUE’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) with a specialization in pediatrics prepares students to provide safe and effective medication care for infants, children, and adolescents. Students develop expertise in pediatric pharmacotherapy, including weight-based dosing and specialized disease management through elective coursework, independent study, and advanced pharmacy practice experiences in pediatric settings.
Graduates of the specialization are prepared to pursue careers as:
- Pediatric clinical pharmacists in general and children’s hospitals
- Pediatric clinical pharmacy specialists
This specialization also significantly enhances a student’s competitiveness for post-graduate pediatric pharmacy practice residencies.
Pediatric pharmacy is a rapidly growing specialty driven by increasing demand for precision medicine and specialized pediatric care. Pharmacists trained in pediatrics are needed in hospitals and specialty clinics, with employment for pharmacists projected to grow 5% and strong opportunities in clinical practice, research, and academia.
