Overview
SIUE’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) specialization in acute care prepares students to provide advanced, evidence-based medication therapy for patients in hospital and acute care settings. Through didactic and experiential learning, students develop expertise in direct patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and management of complex medical situations. The specialization also strengthens students’ preparation for postgraduate residency and specialty training.
Graduates are prepared to pursue clinical pharmacist roles in a variety of acute care settings, including internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, cardiology, infectious diseases, and transitions of care.
Acute care pharmacists are in strong demand as healthcare systems continue to require specialized medication management for patients in high-acuity settings.
