Post-Master's DNP at SIUE
The SIUE School of Nursing's post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is designed for nurses holding a master’s degree as an advanced practice nurse, or holding a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a master's degree appropriate to their advance nursing practice role.
Guided by faculty mentors, DNP candidates enrich and deepen their specialty practice by engaging in transformative educational activities. Through experiential learning, self-assessment and reflection, community engagement, interprofessional relationships, and scientific inquiry, nurses emerge as leaders, transforming their practice and healthcare in self-identified areas of concern and influence. The program culminates in a doctoral project that reflects a synthesis of the knowledge and skills gained throughout the candidate’s educational experience.
To facilitate access to DNP education, the program is offered primarily online, but includes immersion experiences scheduled for one to three days in August of each year. All educational strategies focus on the development of meaningful relationships and scholarship competencies needed at the highest level of nursing practice.
Building on their specialty practice, DNP graduates design new models of care; use evidence to improve practice; evaluate outcomes; identify and manage the healthcare needs of individuals, communities, and populations; and use technology and information systems to improve health outcomes.
Out-of-state students applying for this program are strongly encouraged to discuss clinical requirements with the assistant dean of graduate programs. Clinical arrangements are not able to be made in all states. Please note that international students are ineligible to receive a student visa for this program.
What can I do with a DNP?
The need for innovative strategies to improve the nation’s health has created a high demand for doctorally prepared nurses who possess the sophisticated blend of interpersonal, practice, organizational, business and leadership skills as offered in the SIUE DNP program.
