Overview
SIUE’s geotechnical specialization focuses on the engineering behavior of soil, rock, and groundwater in support of infrastructure systems. Students gain a strong foundation in geotechnical principles, including shallow and deep foundation design, slope stability, retaining structures, subsurface investigation, and soil improvement under various loading conditions. Coursework emphasizes analysis, design, and construction monitoring, preparing students for both field and office work while addressing environmental and public safety considerations.
