COVID-19 Update

Friends,
During the past several weeks, we have shared nearly daily messages about SIUE's response to COVID-19. By now, many of you in our campus community have been personally affected by the pandemic. Perhaps you know someone who has been exposed, tested positive or even lost a loved one to the disease.
Undoubtedly, we will have students, staff and faculty members who will have highly personal and real stories. Sometimes, we will know those stories, and in some cases, we will be unaware of the challenges that an individual is addressing. We ask for your continued commitment to each other and to our goals to contribute to our collective well-being.
Each day, our campus' COVID-19 core planning team meets and takes account of the environment and what needs to be done to preserve the health and safety of our community. At each session, we review data from the States of Illinois and Missouri, and the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
Illinois shares its daily numbers of new positives and lives lost. In recent days, those numbers have been unimaginable. We recognize that this news may amplify the concerns, uncertainty and anxiety in the campus community. Please reach out for help, take time to care for yourself and be supportive of one another.
As the spread of COVID-19 continues and testing is more available, we will not announce every case that is related to the campus. Should particular circumstances warrant notification of the campus or specific individuals, we will certainly do so.
Please know that we are collaborating with the Madison County Health Department and other public health agencies as they care for individuals who have tested positive and those who may be at risk of exposure. Rest assured, we are vigilant in our assessment of each situation, and we will work to preserve the health and safety of our campus community.
In accordance with Governor J.B. Pritzker's Stay-at-Home order, please continue your commitment to physical distancing and good personal hygiene. We still have work to do to flatten the curve.
Be well and stay healthy,
Randy Pembrook, Chancellor
Denise Cobb, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Rachel Stack, Vice Chancellor for Advancement
Rich Walker, Vice Chancellor for Administration
Jeffrey Waple, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
