Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
As we continue to experience the effects of COVID-19 on our country, our state and our University, it has become clear that summer 2020 will be much different regarding events, camps, conferences, course instruction, June Preview and Springboard on our campus. It is with this understanding that we share with you our plans for operations at SIUE for summer 2020.
We understand that these decisions affect not only our faculty, staff and students, but also those who use our facilities for a multitude of purposes. We will continue to teach, learn and serve the community to the best of our abilities, albeit in some nontraditional ways.
Summer Camps, Conferences and Events
For the health and safety of our community, all on-ground summer camps, conferences and events held on the SIUE campus or sponsored by SIUE off-campus through July 5th, 2020 shall be postponed or canceled. Some units are developing online camp and conference opportunities to continue to engage our external communities and children in the region. A decision on camps, conferences and events that would be scheduled from Sunday, July 5 through Saturday, August 8, 2020 will be made in mid-May.
Summer Classes
All undergraduate and graduate summer courses that begin in May and June will be taught online. There are many online courses that begin in July. The University will decide about on-ground courses that are set to begin in July by Friday, May 15. The University will continue to evaluate clinical and lab experiences for relevant disciplines, and determine whether alternative learning experiences can be provided over the summer. All summer courses will be graded utilizing traditional grading scales for those courses.
Springboard
Springboard, SIUE’s two-day summer orientation and registration program required for all incoming first-year students, will be moved to a virtual environment at a reduced fee. The experience will focus on registration for fall 2020 and making the transition to SIUE.
University Travel
Out of an abundance of caution, University-related domestic and international travel will be prohibited through Tuesday, June 30, 2020. If you need to conduct University-related travel that is mission-essential, please seek the approval of your Vice Chancellor.
