Friends and Colleagues – Who would have thought that making all the transitions back in mid-March was the easy part? While working together to meet and respond to all the challenges that have taken place since then is inspiring, a bright light shines on the profound need that remains ahead of us. Obviously, there is still work to be done. Let’s keep moving forward together. In today’s update, let me address a few questions that have come into my office related to returning to work.
Childcare at Work: It can be difficult to arrange for child care right now, however, employees should not bring children to their workplace. It’s not best for them or anyone else. I hope supervisors will be flexible when family needs arise. If you need to stay home to provide child or family care, your federal benefits under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act are listed here.
Probationary Evaluations: Supervisors have the option of extending the probationary period for new employees by the time away since March 17th based upon their ability to evaluate the employee or not. Remember to complete the evaluations, but that an extension of time is available if you wish.
Summer Cleaning: We are hiring six temporary extra help heroes at SIUE this summer to help us get ready for students returning in August. The extra helpers will walk the common areas of the campuses and wipe down/sanitize frequently touched surfaces. Check out the full description at the “Employment Opportunities” page.
If you have a question, please send them to me by email or ext 2536 or call HR at ext 2190 and I’ll do what I can to help.
Thank you for all you do. Keep supporting one another and stay well.
