COVID-19 Mitigation Update

SIUE Community,
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently announced that the additional mitigations that have been in place in Region 4 since August 18, 2020 will be lifted at 5 p.m. today (Oct. 9, 2020).
We are appreciative of the commitment the SIUE community has made in doing its part to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We want our students and employees to remain healthy and our community to thrive.
We continue to need the help of our entire community as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic. We must continue to wear masks, wash our hands and watch our distance. We must avoid places where others aren’t wearing masks or following Illinois Department of Public Health mitigation, be cautious with your "bubble" and limit your contacts to limit exposure - steer clear of large gatherings, and complete a COVID screening test to be aware of your status.
What does this mean for SIUE?
This will return Region 4 to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan, which limits meetings, social events, and gatherings to the lesser of 50 guests or 50% of overall room capacity. SIUE in-person events continue to require an Event Safety Plan.
What if I had an event planned for 25 and want to increase the number of guests?
For any events scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9 or later, event organizers should work directly with the campus facility coordinator to determine if the reserved space can accommodate an increase in guest size or accommodate shifts to a larger space, if available.
What exactly is an Event Safety Plan?
For all events, event organizers should develop an Event Safety Plan and submit it for review. Both indoor and outdoor events may be hosted provided that the activities conform to the current phase of the Restore Illinois plan and receive approval of the Event Safety Plan. This applies to University-sponsored events and student organization events, hosted both on-campus and off-campus. It applies to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan which limits the size of gatherings, requires face coverings and 6-foot social distancing.
Please know that we value and recognize your contributions to SIUE, our students and our shared community. Your commitment to keeping yourself and others healthy is appreciated.
Take care and stay well.
