Dear Colleagues, Today I want to provide an update from this morning’s Board of Trustees meeting for essential business (e.g. only some committees convened and reported), but there was a public comment portion. From my perspective, the most important update is that the Board approved an omnibus motion that included faculty tenure and promotions. Congratulations to all!
While the Chancellor and I won’t be able to host a celebratory dinner as we have done for the past 2 years, we will still purchase a set package of regalia (or transfer the equivalent amount for professional development) for each faculty member who receives tenure and/or promotion. We will also purchase SIUE portfolios. When we are able to safely open campus, we would like to have photos taken of each of our new tenured/promoted colleagues by our talented campus photographer, Howard Ash. When we can safely gather this Fall, we will reschedule our celebration!
It has been a hard couple of months. Today, I read a comment from a senior exit survey: "I was very happy with everyone I was connected with throughout my 4 years here...the faculty played a big part in me finishing college, without them I do not feel like I would have finished college." THANK YOU for the extraordinary work that you do, for your dedication to our students, your creativity and your commitment. I am deeply honored to be your colleague.
