Mask Policy Update and Expectations

Dear Students,
Effective April 4, SIUE’s updated masking policy will only require masks in campus healthcare settings, on public transportation and at COVID-related testing and vaccination sites. Importantly, individual faculty of record are allowed to determine whether mask wearing will remain in place or be optional in their classrooms for the remainder of the spring semester.
In preparation, faculty have been asked to clearly communicate their expectations with you this week. Please check for updates via email, Blackboard and other communication tools. Failure to wear a mask when requested by a faculty member may result in a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
Always keep an approved mask on you for use as individually desired and as requested by faculty in instructional spaces and occupants of private spaces. Face masks are available in classrooms, the Morris University Center Welcome Desk, the Lovejoy Library, and the Student Fitness Center.
A couple of additional notes:
Please be aware that your internship or clinical sites may offer different guidance, and you should adhere to the policies of those sponsoring organizations.
- The updated masking policy does not impact or alter the testing protocol for unvaccinated students or students with an unverified vaccination card. Weekly testing for those individuals is required.
As we all navigate these changes, please be kind and respectful to faculty, staff and your peers. Questions can be directed to deanofstudents@siue.edu.
Please take care and finish this semester off strong!
Sincerely,
Dr. Terrence S. McTier Jr.
Interim Dean of Students
