Our Cougar Commitment: Community Health & Safety Pledge
Consistent with the values of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, we ask students, faculty, and staff to acknowledge the collective role we play in health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We want our community to thrive, our institution to remain open, and our students and employees to remain healthy.
Citizenship - My Civic and Social Responsibilities
Face Coverings
I will wear a face mask or face shield when I'm indoors on campus, regardless of my ability to maintain social distance (except in my own University Housing living space). I will also wear a face mask or face shield outside if I can’t maintain social distance of 6 feet.
Hand Washing
I will wash my hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if a hand washing station isn’t available.
Social Distance
I will maintain distance of 6 feet between people as recommended by Restore Illinois and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and as required by the SIUE COVID-19 People-Focused Health & Safety Policy.
Excellence - My Role in Continuous Improvement
Innovative Learning
I will strive for excellence in both the physical and virtual learning environments, remaining flexible and being open to new technologies.
Inclusion - My Responsibility to Support Others
Kindness and Compassion
I will extend kindness, grace, and compassion to my campus community members and recognize that COVID-19 disproportionately impacts minority communities. Members of our community may be caring for someone at risk or are themselves immunocompromised; following safety measures helps protect everyone.
Integrity - My Role in Protecting Community Health
Daily Health Check
I will conduct a daily health self-assessment. I will stay home if I have any of the following symptoms and contact Health Service (students) or a primary care provider (employees) for guidance:- Fever (100.4 degrees or above) or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
Community Health
I will report if I have COVID-19 symptoms, have close contact exposure, or am diagnosed as presumptive or confirmed positive to Health Service (students) or Human Resources (employees).
Wisdom - My Responsibility to be Informed
Health and Safety Training
I will complete the SIUE COVID-19 Health & Safety online training to better understand prevention strategies and safety expectations.
