Anti-Racism Task Force – Moving Forward
Posted July 17, 2020
Dear SIUE Community,
As part of our active commitment to dismantling racism through positive change, we are dedicated to sharing consistent and transparent communication on the important progress being made by SIUE’s Anti-Racism Task Force. Since its launch, Task Force members have been engaging in meaningful dialogue, solidifying actions that can be immediately implemented and considering what steps need to be taken to ensure sustained progress across our campuses.
An immediate action we are thrilled to announce is the new Racial and Social Justice Scholarship Endowment. University Advancement has done a tremendous job establishing this opportunity and has already secured $10,000 toward that fund. We appreciate those on campus who have contributed by donating their parking pass reimbursements. Anyone interested in supporting this scholarship may give annually or to the endowment by visiting siue.edu/give (fund #8249). The target date for the first scholarship is fall 2021. Contact callcenter@siue.edu with questions or for more information.
We also want to share the names of those serving on each of the four subcommittees: Sustained and Effective Communication, Access and Success, Curriculum, Retention and Promotion. Please see attached. These individuals add tremendous value to our efforts, as they bring expertise from a diversity of professional schools and units across the Alton, Edwardsville and East St. Louis campuses. Community partners will also be involved in the work of subcommittees.
This week, subcommittee co-chairs began presenting their progress to the Task Force Core Council. We are energized by their efforts and look forward to keeping the campus community informed. A Q&A with the Anti-Racism Task Force is planned for Friday, July 24, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. and attendees may access the event at https://siue.zoom.us/s/99609391126.
Our work to dismantle racism is a campus wide effort. The time for change is now. We thank you for your support of this work for the betterment of our campus community and beyond.
With sincere dedication,
Chancellor Randy Pembrook and the Anti-Racism Task Force
