2003 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ILLINOIS GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY
April 24-26, 2003 (Thursday to Saturday) Quincy, Illinois Plan to join members and friends of the Society on the left bank of the Mississippi at one of the early sites of American settlement in Illinois, at the western edge of what, after the War of 1812, had become the Military Bounty Land or Military Tract. Len Ealey, the meeting organizer, has chosen Gem of the Mississippi as the theme of this annual gathering of the geographical clan and the Holiday Inn in Quincy for the various meeting functions. This meeting will follow the format of several recent meetings: Council dinner and meeting on Thursday night; field trip, social hour (or two), and banquet on Friday; and paper sessions and business meeting on Saturday. Len’s field trip will include a look at a historic Quincy neighborhood, the Adams County GIS Project, underground storage in an enormous limestone quarry beneath Quincy, and nearby Hannibal (Missouri) by steamboat and on foot. Lunch Friday will be a part of the field trip package. Make reservations for rooms at the Holiday Inn (201 South 3rd Street) by calling 217-222-2666. Be sure to mention the Society when making your reservation. Council and other members are especially interested in having college students be a lively part of the festivities for the 2003 annual meeting. We will post a call for professional papers here in the late fall of 2002. Meeting materials will go to members around the first of March in 2003.
