SIUE Women's Track and Field Signs Two
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's track and field coach David Astrauskas has signed two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
SIUE has added Brandi Jones (Granite City) and Elisha Crawley (Decatur).
Jones, a 6-foot-2-inch thrower, qualified for the Illinois High School Association state meet the last two seasons in the discus. She also earned All-Southwestern Conference honors as well as All-Area selections at Granite City High School.
"I'm really excited to get the chance to work with Brandi," said Astrauskas. "She will benefit from a structured training environment. I think with her her size, the sky is the limit on her performances."
Crawley comes to SIUE after being one of the top mid-distance runners in the state of Illinois. As a junior, she ran the second-fastest 800-meter time at sectionals heading into the Class AA meet. She finished seventh at the 2009 state championships at 800 meters. Crawley was a multi-sport athlete at Decatur MacArthur in cross country, basketball and track and field.
"Elisha has all of the tools to become a great collegiate track athlete," said Astrauskas. "Elisha will have an instant impact on our program, and I was extremely happy to hear that she wanted to be an SIUE Cougar."
