Brown, Dennis Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Award
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville runners Megan Dennis (Country Club Hills) and Kayla Brown (Petersburg) have been named to the All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The USTFCCCA released the list of student-athletes who have been named to the 2008 Division II Menís All-Academic Track and Field team. Dennis and Brown were two of 222 student-athletes who represent 69 Division II institutions that make up the All-Academic team.
These student-athletes are recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishment during the 2007-08 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. In order to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
Dennis surpassed NCAA provisional qualifying marks in four events, including a time of 62.33 in the 400-meter hurdles, 14.47 in the 100-meter hurdles, 11.82 meters in the indoor triple jump, and 12.08 meters in the outdoor triple jump. Brown provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:34.61 at the Keeler Invitational.
