Cougars Put Up Season Bests at Classic
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Dana Fischer (Nashville) set a new school record in the pole vault at 10 feet, 0.5 inches to help the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville track teams to a successful day at the Cougar Classic.
Other Cougars putting up new season best performances included Aftan Noon (Forsyth), recording an 800-meter time of 2:20.81.
Also finishing the day with a season best for the SIUE women was Juliet Alrich (Carpentersville), who competed in the 100-meter dash at 12.48 and in the 200-meter dash at 24.86.
Megan Dennis (Country Club Hills) took first place in the 100-meter hurdles and set a season best 14.50. Breanna Branson (Nilwood) put up two top throws for the season in the hammer 162-0 and in the discus 131-0.
The SIUE men picked up season best finishes in the 100-meter dash by Tony Bowman (Chicago) at 10.88.
In the distance events, Marc Amarillas (Quincy) finished the day with two top performances in the 800-meter 1:59.42 and the 1,500-meter run 4:04.62, while Kyle Cameron (East Moline) turned in a top performance at 15:17.42 in the 5000-meter run. Karl Smith (Decatur) also set his season high with a 49.24m (161-0) in the discus throw.
Eric Mammoser (Newton) added another first-place performance in the pole vault with a winning leap of 15-0.
SIUE will travel next weekend to the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
