SIUE Set for the Cougar Classic
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's and women's track and field teams will be at home for the Cougar Classic at Korte Stadium this Saturday.
"I think the familiar surrounding of a home track will help our team perform well," SIUE coach David Astrauskas said.
Astrauskas and the Cougars are coming off a successful meet at the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Ben Bishop threw a career best 190-6 in the hammer throw. Eric Mammoser is coming into the meet off his best performance of the season in the pole vault with a leap of 16 feet.
On the women's side, Kayla Brown looks to continue with success after winning the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17 minutes, 36.76 seconds. Megan Dennis also looks to improve her triple jump season best of 40-0.75.
"We have performed well at the meets so far this season," Astrauskas said. "I look for us to continue to make improvements."
Other teams that will be competing at the Cougar Classic include Greenville, Lindenwood, McKendree, Washington, Illinois College, Aquinas, Missouri Baptist, Westminster, Principia, Maryville, Southeast Missouri State, Webster, Fontbonne, and St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.
"We have posted some quality performances at every meet, and I am looking for our athletes to continue to make strides towards their goals," Astrauskas said.
