I was born in the United Kingdom - specifically in Oldham, Lancashire (we won't mention exactly when!). I have been in the United States since 1981 and all my college education was received here. After 17 years of being out of school I began taking classes at a community college, and went on to get a BSE in secondary education and an MA in geography from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In 1994 I received my Ph.D. in geography from the University of Georgia. I began teaching at SIUE in the fall of 1994.
I have four children; a son Shaw who is a Ph.D. student at Queen Mary and Westfield College in London, a daughter Fflur who works in administration, a daughter Amanda who is in 11th grade at Edwardsville High School, and a son Kassidy who will be 5 on September 13th 2000.
I am married to Bin Zhou (ZB) who is from Beijing, China. He is also a member of the geography faculty here at SIUE.
