Arguments for the Existence of God

 

 

I.                   A Priori Argument

 

The Ontological Argument

P1: God, by definition, is a being with all perfections.

 

P2:  Existence is a perfection.

 

C:  So God exists.

 

 

II.                A Posteriori Arguments

 

The Cosmological Argument

P1:    Every observed event has a cause, and/or every observed being has an explanation for its existence.

 

P2:    There must be some first cause and/or some necessarily existent being.

 

C:      So God exists.

 

 

The Teleological Argument

P1:    The world/nature has many different parts that all work/fit together for a purpose.

 

P2:    The best explanation for this is that the world/nature had a designer.

 

C:      So God exists.
