John Francis McDermott 
(1902-1981)
Among the manuscripts held are the papers of historian John Francis McDermott (1902-1981), labor leader Harold J. Gibbons (1910-1982), and newspaperman Carl R. Baldwin (1908-1994). The papers of East St. Louis, Illinois, mayors Alvin G. Fields, William E. Mason, and James E. Williams, Sr. have also been acquired.

Metro East Journal Morgue

The morgue or newspaper clipping file of the East St. Louis Journal/Metro East Journal consists of approximately 400,000 items covering primarily the period from the middle of the century through 1979.


Madison County, Illinois
Court Records

An assortment of nineteenth-century Madison County, Illinois, circuit court records has been deposited on loan. Also on Loan are naturalization papers and ledger books of the same era for Madison County.

Slavic-American Imprints

Thanks to the cooperation of the children and grandchildren of Slavic immigrants to the region, hundreds of works published here in the United States in Slavic languages and describing the experiences and interests of newcomers have been assembled and catalogued.


Regional Research Collection

This collection of catalogued books consists of historical and contemporary works describing the communities and counties of the Metro East region and Southwestern Illinois, as well as historiographical studies and guides to archival holdings and management.

 


Jennie Latzer Kaeser
Rare Book Room

Items requiring special care and housing due to their physical condition or uniqueness are preserved in the Jennie Latzer Kaeser Rare Book Room. Among these are several early Illinois county histories and atlases, travel accounts, city directories, and immigrant guides.
