Dr. Fries joined SIUE in Fall 2008, teaching and researching topics in transportation engineering after completing his M.S. and Ph.D. at Clemson
University in South Carolina.  Specifically, his emphasis lies in intelligent transportation systems, traffic operations, and transportation security. 
He is a licensed professional engineering in South Carolina and has won several teaching awards and has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed journal articles,
