Dewey on Health

A good exercise that Dewey would appreciate would be called "design a community where improving health is the key component of the community." Everything in the community has to relate to good health or improving health within the community. The students would then have to determine what good health is and how to get every member of the community to achieve it. From here they could learn many aspects of nutrition and exercise. They could learn what physical activities are important for improving health. For example, they would decide that people couldn't use cars, but instead ride bikes or walk to work or school. They would then have to design bike paths (using math and learning what type of materials make good bike paths and why?) Also, they would have to learn how to cook healthy foods and learn about the body.
