EPFR 520 Analysis of Educational Issues: Philosophic-historic Perspective



Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to help students develop a more thorough understanding of education and their role as teachers through a study of the philosophical ideas and historical forces that shape schools and the educational process.

Relationship to Knowledge Base:

This course is required of all advanced level students. Specifically, students are encouraged to examine their beliefs and to develop them into a personal philosophy of education which will enable them to enhance their roles as professional educators.

Goal:

The goal of this course is to enable students to be more effective inquiring professionals through an understanding of the philosophical and historical foundations of the educational process. The emphasis is on students being able to apply philosophical ideas and historical understanding to their own professional practice in order to continually improve that practice.
