The next three assignments will require you to work with a non-profit organization.  Read throught through the assignments.  Locate a non-profit organization suitable for you to work with.  You will need to conduct several interviews and visit the organization as well.  By Monday, September 28th class, you should have selected an organization and made initial contact. Your initial contact with the organization should include mention of the assignements you are doing.  Be sure to get the name of your contact person and information about how best to get back in touch with him/her later in the week.

Research Paper Assignment

You will write a 5-7-page research paper on the problem or deficiency that your non-profit organization attempts to alleviate.  For instance, if you are working with Oasis Women's Shelter, your paper will be on domestic violence.  If you are working with a shelter for the Homeless, your paper would be on the homeless in America.

Due Monday, 9/29:    Proof of initial contact with a non-profit orgranization.
Due Monday, 10/6   Anotated bibliography on topic.
Due Wednesday, 10/8        Summary/critiques of three sources.
Due  Monday, 10/13           Introduction and first sentences of each paragraph.
Due Wednesday, 10/15    First Draft of paper.
Due Monday, 10/20          Final draft of paper

Grant Proposal Assignment

Find a non-profit organization in our area whose purpose interests you.  You will be working
     with this group for Paper 2 and the web page project, your third major assignment for this
     course, so it is important to find an organization you are interested in.

     Assignment:  Write a five-page proposal for funding for this organization.  Your proposal
     should be directed towards an appropriate funding source for this organization.  It should
     include these sections:

     Introduction and Background:
       Describe the organization's mission and work.

     The Problem:

     Discuss the specific need for funding.  What specific problem would the organization be
     empowered to solve?   Give details showing that you have researched this problem fully,
     including citations.

     Significance:
 
     Why is it important that this problem be addressed?  (Note:  remember you are addressing an
     agency, which gets many requests for funding. Be persuasive.)  Give detailed information,
     including citations.

The Solution:

Discuss as specifically as possible what your proposal is.  How much money are your requesting and for what specific purpose?

     Benefits of Project:

     Discuss as specifically as possible what the results of funding would be.  How would funding
     this project reflect back on the funders?

Budget and Budget Justification

Itemize the costs of your proposal as specifically as possible.  Indicate any other sources of support as you itemize.  Total the cost of the project and the amount requested from this funding source.

     Works Cited:

     Include all works cited in MLA format.

 Web Page Assignment

Work with your non-profit organization to create a website for it or to add to its existing website.  More details to follow on this assignment.
