You will need your yellow vaccination card showing proof of vaccination.

Yellow Fever vaccination is required to enter Uganda.

We require that your tetanus shot be current.

The CDC recommends the following vaccinations:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid

We recommend that you check and update the following vaccinations if they are not current:

  • Poliomyelitis booster
  • Diphtheria
  • Measles, if you have not had them or if you have not had 2-live virus immunizations

Check with your doctor about getting the required and recommended shots.  Additionally the Gateway Occupational Health Services in Granite City offers clinic services where you can get travel medication and the required shots.  (618) 798-3475.

We also refer you to the CDC website for specific health issues in Uganda (www.CDC.gov).

Prophylactic Malaria Medication

Malaria is a concern in Uganda and we will be in country for an extended period of time, so it is recommended that you take prophylactic medication to prevent Malaria infection. The CDC recommends Atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine.   Check with your primary care physician to determine which medication is right for you.
