Introductions

Beginning Your Training Course

So, you have checked and rechecked to ensure that you are fully prepared for your training course. Now, you are waiting for your course to begin. The below video gives great pointers for opening and closing your training course. After watching the video, we'll discuss introductions a bit further.

Ms. Riegel mentioned ways to start classroom introductions. Let's say you were doing a training on your favorite topic tomorrow for an online audience of 15 participants. Think a few minutes about how you would open your class. Would you start with a question, address the day if it was of particular importance, or would you tell a story? Take our poll on the left to tell us how you would open your class.

Introductions are of utmost importance. They are your first chance to capture the attention of your audience. You don't want your learners multi-tasking, doodling, or simply tuning you out. Grasp your learner's attention at the very beginning of the course by involving attendees through interaction. Below are examples of tools that you can use to open your online training course using Adobe Connect:

  • Chatting
  • Polling
  • Status icons (ex: hand raise tool, smiling face, etc.)
