Passport

Shots?  I recommend Tetanus and Hepatitis A

Cash, credit card or ATM card.  Call your credit card issuer and your debit card issuer to tell them you will be out of the country what dates--we have not had problems using ATM cards that are in the Plus network, but ask yours whether it will work in Costa Rica.  ATMs are the best way to get local cash. 

You will need to pay for some meals.  This includes all meals on the travel days, although you might be fed on the flights to/from Costa Rica. The rest of your meals, housing, local travel, and some tours are included.  Optional tours/activities like the zip line canopy tour (about $25), the waterfall hike ($10), snacks, drinks and shopping will be at your expense.

Clothes (Temp will be mid-80s most of the time)
Make sure clothes dry easily as we’ll be in the rain forest…..

Shirts and pants/shorts appropriate for work.
Pajamas
Swimsuits
Beach towel
Beach shoes that you can wear in shower
At least one pair of pants and long sleeve shirt (for volcano trip)
Work shoes or boots!!!!!! (in rain forest, you CANNOT wear open shoes)

Accoutrement
Water bottle or canteen. 
Personal care products.
Include bug spray and sunscreen. 
Hat and workgloves.
Flashlight (people enjoy head lights that you can strap to your head)
Notebook, folder, pencils, pens. 
Prescription medicines in the original container.  Over the counter medicines also in original container.   There will be a medical kit there.

Optional
Spanish dictionary (if you have or are working on the language).
Guide books
Binoculars – strongly urged.
School supply donations and classroom environmental activities for children we’ll meet.
Wet wipes might be nice. 
Comfort snack food or money for treats and soda for travel days.
Positive attitude, flexibility and patience, servant mentality, and a good mix of curiosity and acceptance
