Overview

The role of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in the e-business environment will be explored using SAP. (Other ERP products are Oracle, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft’s Great Plains software). This course takes a risk management approach to examine the security and controls necessary to complete typical e-business transactions. The course will use various modules of SAP to provide a framework for the analysis and formulation of business solutions and strategies.

Objective - Enterprise Resource Planning software affects all facets of a business enterprise. The strength of this software is to integrate marketing, management, production, and accounting. Therefore, familiarity with the business processes used in this type of software is relevant to all business majors.

The SAP software provides the mechanism to identify the business processes required to complete typical e-business transactions. The Financial, Controlling, and Logistics modules will be used to illustrate the sales and purchasing cycles, while tactical analysis will be done using the Business Information Warehouse and the Strategic Enterprise Management components of the system. The course will focus on the security and control issues that are crucial for the success of ERP systems and all e-business enterprises. Using SAP, students not only increase their technical skills, but also develop a paradigm to help analyze business situations and form appropriate solutions.

The Financial module of SAP requires only limited understanding of the accounting model. A user=s approach will be implemented so students with all levels of accounting and computer background will find the course relevant.

Prerequisites - ACCT 501

Besides being available at the bookstore and normal online sources, it is also available at Walmart.com. You may be able to find some used texts online as well.
