About Search Engines

Search engines are tools that help you find what you want when using the Internet.  Each search engine uses software to compile a database of pages found on the Internet. When you enter a search, the search engine scans its own database to find appropriate matches.

No one search engine catalogs the entire Internet.  Therefore, it is recommended to use multiple search engines when conducting research on the Internet.

Some search engines include: Google, Yahoo, Teoma, Excite, HotBot, and Alta Vista.  Click here for a more extensive list of search engines.
