Searching an Index/Database

Your professor asks you to write a paper about a topic currently in the news. You must use both popular and scholarly articles to support your paper.

You have read that there will be an increase in college tuition beginning immediately for most public universities.  You first step in the research process is to develop a thesis topic on this subject.  A thesis statement for this topic might be:

"Various economic and social factors have contributed to the increase in college tuition."

On the next page you will be searching on this topic using Academic Search Elite, a general electronic index.

NOTE: Due to licensing agreements, the search portion of this module is only available to on-campus users and SIUE students, faculty, and staff.  (If you are a SIUE faculty, staff, or a currently registered student and are having trouble accessing Academic Search Elite through the SIUE server from your home computer, please see the instructions for connecting from off campus.)

If you are not on-campus or one of the SIUE users listed above, you cannot use Academic Search Elite. However, you may continue to use all other parts of Information Gateway and continue the tutorial from this page.
