Two Types of Indexes/Databases - Subject

2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic focused on a particular subject?

If your research needs meet the criteria above, it is best to start with a subject index. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject indexes and the kinds of articles they identify include:

ABI/Inform indexes articles in business-related subjects such as management, finance, and advertising.
Historical Abstracts indexes articles in world history.
PubMed indexes articles in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, healthcare systems, and preclinical sciences.
