Dr. Helen Goode came
to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in September
of 1962 and taught Spanish courses in the Department of Foreign Languages
and
Literature for over 17 years. Dr. Goode earned the Bachelors and
Masters degrees
in music and the Ph. D. degree in Spanish at the Unviersity of Kansas.
Before her
death in May 1995, Dr. Goode made a bequest to fund a scholarship at SIUE
for
students interested in teaching Spanish. The scholarship is in the
amount of
$1,500.00 for the academic year.
Qualifications:
In order to be eligible for the Goode scholarship, the student must:
-be a declared major in Spanish
-have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program at SIUE
-have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a GPA of at least 3.0 in his/her
Spanish
courses
-show promising potential as a teacher
