Biography
Constructivist theory, self-reflection, and inquiry teaching and learning are at the heart of Jessica Krim's teaching activities. Through these means, she implements the use of lesson and unit planning, peer feedback, concept mapping, heuristic learning, personality analysis, journaling, video review, and student work samples to develop a critically self reflective practice for pre-service educators. She has worked with groups of teachers from Thailand and presented overseas in the area of action research. Her research agenda includes teacher capacity and critical reflection of pre-service educators.
Before beginning her academic career, Jessica taught middle school and high school in both Arizona and Delaware, her emphasis being earth science and life science. Additionally, she participated in the JASON Project, an EarthWatch expedition, and was involved with the Delaware Science Olympiad both as a coach and an event supervisor. Her career in K-12 education has instilled in her an appreciation for learner diversity, a love for the biological, environmental and earth sciences, and a respect for all students that she teaches.
Jessica is a member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). She is a Faculty Fellow for University Housing, and co-advisor for SIUE's student chapter of the National Science Teachers Association. She regularly conducts educational research with undergraduate students through SIUE's Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (URCA) program.
