The Story of Narrative Analysis for Young Children

Abstract
This session will provide basic "user friendly" procedures for assessing oral narrative language in young children.  Several kinds of narratives and narrative structures will be briefly reviewed.  Discussion will focus on practical procedures for analyzing children's personal narratives.  The session will include interpretation of both qualitative and quantitative data to generate goals and objectives for intervention. 

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be familiar with:
1. the various narrative types and structures,

2. procedures for eliciting and collecting oral narrative samples,

3. basic qualitative and quantitative analysis procedures, and

4. interpretation of results for clinical use.
