Their parents were first generation immigrants from the Pfalz in Germany who built a new life on Pleasant Ridge.
Carolina Buertel was the third child, born in the Pfalz, but her mother died a few months later. She emigrated with her dad and stepmother and grew up on Pleasant Ridge. She married an Irishman, Frank D. Sullivan. Her stepsister, Elizabetha married a Zimmer and they ended up raising Carolina's 4 year old son, Frank, my grandfather after she died. Lou Noe was the first of nine children. He married Eva Fickeisen and took her to Lubeck, West Virginia to a crude log cabin. They raised two of their three children there. When Lou died in 1904, "Grandma" Noe, then 45, came back to the Pleasant Ridge homestead with her 14 year old daughter, Clara, my grandmother. Eve Fickeisen was the fifth of 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. Sister Anna Biehl and brothers Jacob, Abraham and Dan settled on Pleasant Ridge. Sister Margaret Becker settled in Sitka, a few miles south. Brothers John and Charlie settle in Whipple. Sister Kate Miller and probably brother Adam went to Lubeck near Eve. No one knows about Carrie.
